Hey guys, I use Sony Vegas 8 and I'm wondering what codec I have to install to be able to choose to encode to H.264 from within Sony Vegas, that is, when I click Render As..., I want to be able to encode to H.264 from there, similar to when I install Xvid and I see the option there. I would appreciate any help you can provide, thanks!

It is already there. I believe Sony puts it in an mp4 container, so start by looking there.

Sorry, can you elaborate? How can I choose a container? All I seem to be able to choose is avi.

Nevermind I got it, I chose it by doing save as .mp4. However, after clicking the customize button, there seems to be no indication of H.264 much less choosing that compression type.

Vegas 7 (although I doubt much has changed in 8)

Files -> Render. Save as Type : Mainconcept AVC/AAC (.mp4)
Click on the Custom button to change the settings.

    AVC is H.264

Thanks I found it. Doesn't seem to be any indication that it is H.264 (In the resulting mp4 file) but I'll take your word for it. I think x264vfw gives me more flexibility anyways, allowing me to customize the settings and what not. Thanks again!
