New LCDTV. Good Terrestial picture - picsulated digital outlines.

I have just installed a new LCD TV, (Toshiba 37XV505D). I have got no problems with the terrestial reception but the digital picture, from the Sky box is not what I would expect, (the terrestial being a sharper image). I am still learning about the set up but cannot find anything in the book that covers this.

Would I be off target by suspecting the Sky dish out of alignment, or something to do with it? This is not an intermittant display, it just is not a sharp as I would expect. (It looks something similar to what you get in the states on their TV).

I know it is a bit vague but I am sure I should be getting pin sharp images from this TV in both formats.

Any help would be apreciated.

I am in the states so this may not be your exact situation. We have multiple over the air broadcast streams here, both HD and non-HD. For example, I can get channel 2 in regular broadcast or HD broadcast. HD is of course superior. Over the satelite I do not get a HD signal unless I pay extra for the HD receiver to access the satelites HD signal. So my over the air signal is clearer than the satelite (or cable). I have also noticed that different channels have better resolution than others.

Sky is known for heavy SD compression, probably more than the DVB-T terrestrial. Do you have high definition service from Sky?

Also tuner to TV connection affects quality. Try for HDMI or analog components if you have that option.

Thanks for the advice. I am considering going for the Sky HD package as my present one is a basic one and the box is one of the original boxes from years ago. I am assuming that this will be connected through the HDMI inputs so I would have thought that this should improve the signal?

The HD channels should be a great improvement. We'll wait for a Sky HD customer to comment on quality of SD channels through the HD box.
