good software i used all the right setting and i choosed ULTRA X264
the best quality and it converted it to 1.53 Gig
    and when i choosed 4000 K X264 .. less quality . it was 4 Gig

Most likely you picked "Constant Quality" mode= unknown size...set to either "Pass Bitrate" or "Pass size" mode and set to desired bitrate or size..........

Generally, using a higher bitrate will yield a bigger file size and better video or audio quality while a lower bitrate will give you a lower file size but worse video or audio quality. If your concern is file size,as your thread title suggests, then in XviD4PSP adjust bitrate and keep an eye on the file size, and set to your goal....

I've read that a bitrate of 4000kbps - 5000kbps is usually a good range for a normal length movie when using 720p resolution. I would use as high a bitrate that will allow you to fit the movie onto a DVD disc so 4.0GB - 4.3GB is the range you would want.

When using XviD4PSP I would use the "MP4 PS3" or "MP4 XBOX 360" profile for the video. This will make the video compliant for not only those two devices (the two profiles are identical for video) but also ensure compatibility with other hardware assisted playback solutions (like high end video cards or the popular AMD 780G chipset).

These two profiles default to Constant Quality with a Quantizer of 21 so you would want to switch to 2-pass (3-pass is overkill) bitrate mode and then set the bitrate so that your final file size is in the 4.0GB - 4.3GB file size range. This way you can burn your MP4 file to a DVD as a DATA DVD.

As I said when using 720p resolution this method should give excellent final quality except perhaps for very long (like 2.5 hours) movies.

Please note that the PS3 supports 5.1 AAC whereas the XboX 360 only supports 2.0 AAC and you want to use AAC-LC no matter what.

Hi Fulci, glad you joined in...I see the new version of XviD4PSP has some new added features and fixes..can't wait to try it out...
BTW for those interested in converting MKV 1080p or 720p to standard DVD,try the new FAVC, worked great on a sample for me....
    Cheers!...

i converted mkv file which is 4.8 Gig , the movie hitman.,
i use XVID4PSP, and first i choosed constant quality and the file was 1.53 Gig
but then i choosed 3 - pass , or something like that with 8000 K bitrate and the output should be 6 Gig and now it just 2.91 Gig . and the conversation time was about 2 days, and also i cant play it on my xbox 360 because its say that the file may be not supported error code
    69-c00d10e0
on WMP11 the file is work very good.

Make sure you use the MP4 PS3 or XBOX360 Format
    Choose 2-pass ,set Bitrate between 4000 - 5000kbps, use AAC-LC ABR 128 2ch audio..should work on your Xbox...

Hey guns, I believe OP stated that it played, "work very good" on PC....
But yeah I wonder if it plays all the way through!....

well it wont play all the way. i've checked it play almost all the way.
but please someone tell me why is that ? i did everything good with the configuration like i've been told here in the guide that someone added. and if my file dont work all the way. why in XVID4PSP the conversation took 2 days and at the end it said "conversation ended succesfully !! ? . or something like that idont remember

    and about what you said,
the quality is better when i choose 8000 K bitrate and 3 - pass
    it should work no ?

i mean for me not, but for you ...
because the idea is to see in the xbox 360 the best quality . so why choose 2 - pass and bitrate of 5000 ?

later you can split the mp4 in YAMB.

Fill in your computer specs in your profile. The only reason I can think of that it took two days is that you have an old, slow computer. You can't play it all the way through because you either stopped it before it finished encoding, it crashed before it finished encoding, or you didn't download the entire file.

What audio settings did you use?

Did you try to burn to a DVD disc (as a data DVD) and play it THAT way on your XboX 360?

no.. streaming with WMP11 or TVersity.
    audio was AAC-LC ABR 128K
the setting was good. and the video : X264 Q21 TURBO.. and there in setting i did 4888 birtrate and 2 - pass.
and also i tried to split the file in idea that maybe he's too big , i can split the file but even then it wont work.

what are the differents between Q21 and Q18 .. maybe the mp4 dont play on my xbox 360 because i choosed Q21 and i need to choose Q18 ?

and now the error code is different .. it : 69-c00d119a

Well you shouldn't have any probs streaming with those settings, however why not try a different sample clip with same settings and see if it works... xvid4PSP is pretty good at converting to .mp4 so far! (knock on wood)....

Or try with MeGui or RipBot,or GotSent....

If your streaming to the Xbox, you'll have to use AAC 2 ch audio not 6 channel...And as far as the difference between Q18 and Q21, most likely the lower the value the better the quality the slower the process,or the other way around!...Not sure though, try a sample clip and see...

The dots should also appear when you play the video on your PC. If they don't then they aren't in the video.

Again, screenshots. If they are there on your PC, you can grab them. It might be something simple to clear up, but you need to help us help you.
