Im trying to crop avi files (top and bottom) have tracking issues (from VHS tapes), tried with Avidemux and audio goes out of sync for some reason. Im using Xvid in the configure option... and the original files codec is MP42 (video source).

I tried with Virtual Dub and Nandub, both if I choose Full Processing, and compression set to either XVID or MP42, the CROP button does NOT light up in the filter menu.

Any help how I can crop a bit off top and bottom, the easiest and fastest way, preserving the video quality like the source?

In virtualdub must you first add the null transform filter and then can you click on the cropping-button.

  3. Cropping can be added to any filter in VirtualDub. If you are not using any other filters you can add the Null Transform (do nothing) filter and apply cropping to that. If you are using any other filters you can add cropping to one of them instead. Cropping takes place before the particular filter action is taken.

A word of warning: most encoders require the frame dimensions be at least even values (as in odd vs. even numbers). Some require integer multiples of 4, 8, or 16. Xvid and Divx are at their most efficient with mulitiples of 8 or 16. So, for example, don't leave a 720x401 frame after cropping. Make it 720x400 instead.

You can save the settings for the cropping so you can retrieve them later and reuse them, and you can save your job to a batch and run the batch when you have put all the jobs in there. But you can't select multiple files and apply the same changes to them in one hit.
