    How do I make an editable file (.avi), mpg or such) from a finalized dvd made from a home dvd recorder(panasonic, sony etc)?Could someone point me to a topic or someone please explain it to me?I appreciate it. Thanks

    You could extract the MPEG from the DVD with VOB2MPG. That would give you one huge MPEG file. You should be able to edit that with any MPEG editor. The MPEG would be lossless when extracted. If you wanted to encode it to a AVI type file, there would be some quality loss from the encoding. There are also some editors that can edit on the VOB level.

    If you wanted to edit and then output as a AVI type file, you could use the newest VirtualDub or the older VirtualDub Mod. They only output AVI.

    In general, you want to edit in the native format, then do your conversions to other formats. MPEG is the native format of a DVD.
