I have been able to successfully record OTA HD with GBPVR in ts format and convert said files to DVD with HDTV2DVD. However, CW (WGN 9 in Chicago) constantly gives me troubles. I can record from CBS & NBC at 1080i, as well as ABC, FOX, and WTTW-DT at 720p and convert all the ts files to an in sync DVD. But no matter what I record from the CW at 1080i, HDTV2DVD chokes on it. It says:
    Type: System.NullReferenceException
    Source: HDTV2DVD
Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
    InnerException:

Whatever that means??? It appears to me that whatever CW is doing to their broadcast is affecting the ability to convert it since all the other stations are not giving me a problem.

Any information for my ignorance is appreciated.

    Thanks,

  2. Haven't done a lot of OTA HD, but I have recorded CW here in Florida with no major issues.

First set of test recordings, a dozen or so, I seem to recall getting a similar error, along with slow tuning, occassional video freezes, stutters, etc. Switched to a Terk indoor antenna and most problems disappeared. Using a Hauppage 1600 card.

Am testing both HDTV2DVD, ProjectX, some others but these two seem most promising.

  3. Thanks for the response, however, to clarify, I am not having any problems pulling in the signals. I can watch live tv and record all the channels just fine. My problems come into play when I try to convert certain recordings to DVD. It appears to be isolated to recordings on channel 9 WGN (CW). If I record it as an mpeg, depending on the software I use, I get terribly out of sync DVDs, or a DVD that’s in sync but freezes half way through. If I record as DVR-MS and convert the file to MPEG, I get the same problems. Finally, if I record as a .ts file, the software just won’t respond. But again, it’s files recorded from one certain channel only.

  4. You should try recording in mpeg4. mpeg4 uses key frames to ensure the audio and video are in sync.
