I'm sure that my Nod32 has gone way past its yearly initial installation, when normally you get the message "has expired, renew etc etc.", but is merrily continuing to update. Anyone else had this ? Do you just let sleeping dogs lie and just let it roll on, or do you contact Eset and say "hey, why are you still updating me ?"

  3. It should continue to update virus definitions without a problem. You won't be able to get program updates though. Of course Eset rarely pushes out program updates via it's automatic update function. Go to Eset's website and try to download the newest version with your username and password. If it won't accept it then you are definitely expired.

Avast did the same thing to me...program updates and AV updates LONG after it said it would need re-authorized(or whatever it is called).

No, normally as soon as its expired and you try download new definitions it will say " has expired, please visit the website or purchase new cd," or some such.. and not allow any updates.

  6. NOD32 must work differently than virtually every other AV I've ever used then. Even crappy Norton will allow you to keep getting definitions as long as your current program will support them.

ha, when norton 2007 expires it won't even run. i had a computer with a bad clock battery boot into 2000 and when the battery was replaced and the clock reset to 2008 norton claimed to have expired and wouldn't launch.

  8. That must have change too! Of course I haven't run Norton since probably 2003.

Yup, thats what I figured on doing I suppose. Couldn'd help wondering though, if Eset can slip up on something so simple, if they can make slip ups on the efficiency of their anti-virus detections also.... Humm, food for thought.

  11. Oh Eset is pretty well known for some of the oddball issues with their products. They've always had a good AV and it's as good if not better than pretty much any contender out there but their customer service can be a bit lacking at times and their programing does have some glitches from time to time. I just had to reinstall NOD32 completely on one PC because it was causing it to hang at boot up. Other people are reporting the latest version is cause massive resource hogging.
