First of all, you don't have to convert to analog first. I'm not sure what you're even talking about with that statement as it has nothing to do with making DVDs. You joined almost 5 years ago and you still don't know any better than to make that kind of statement? You go years between posts, so maybe your lack of interest in improving your knowledge about video is at play here. If you had kept up with the forums since you joined, you would know how to do this and wouldn't have to ask.
Yes, you can rip chapters from different DVDs and combine them into one DVD. You need to rip by IFO to get specific chapters ripped. If you can find it, the ancient DVD Decrypter program can do this, but it does not understand the copy protection on some (ie. Columbia and Disney, but there are other companies too) DVDs. I don't know if more modern ripping tools can let you rip by IFO. Once you have the chapters, I guess the easiest thing for a newbie to do would be to use DVD Shrink in author mode to put the chapters together into a new DVD. I told you what to do. It's up to you to find documentation on those programs and to get them. -
thanks for answering my question and being a total dbag doing it.

DVDFab HD Decrypter will let you rip by chapter, but no smaller. From there you can use DVD Shrink to combine them into a single disc with minimal fuss.

He suggested Shrink only for joining the chapters into a burnable DVD. His suggestion for getting the chapter files onto the hard drive was to use DVDFab HD Decrypter. Unless I've misunderstood your last post.

I just noticed that we seem to have joined on the same day. Another coincidence is that I'm also in Hawaii, in Kona on the Big Island.
I've never heard of anyone not being able to use DVD Shrink for that sort of thing. But maybe you can also use IFOEdit to do the job. Here's a guide:

I think I'd rename the VOB files so that they're numbered consecutively as, for example, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB, etc, and place them all in the same folder. -
If DVDShrink is freezing you have a problem somewhere else. I'm not saying what you want to do is easy but my ex phoned me to say she wanted to do just what you are doing and I explained it to her over the phone in less than 5 minutes. Half an hour later she had done it. That's someone who normally only ever uses a computer for Word processing and email.
