  1. Anyone have an opinion or own a TrekStor external hard drive?

I'm considering purchasing a 500 gb unit. I would like to know if/when the warranty is up on this unit and the original hard drive dies, can another IDE or SATA hard drive be put into the case? I understand with some external hard drives you can not replace a failed drive with a regular IDE or SATA drive.

    TIA

  2. It is a very good drive for the money. I have 3 externals, and this one is my fav. I like how it powers down on its own if it not in use.

It depends on the software (And firmware) the external enclosure uses, but with most you should be able to replace the hard drive with one of the same type, PATA or SATA, 3.5" or 2.5".
