    is there any difference between these 2 dvd player models?
    i've not found much.

    it's 5980 not 82

    looked a lot closer with the last specs i saw.
    checked philips shitty site again as i saw you got it working and got this:

    still wouldn't say i'm clear on the diffferences, but that's fine.

  3. 3980: no 1080p, no Divx certification, no Divx Ultra certification, no USB. Get the 5990 instead. It fixes most of the shortcomings of earlier models.

    Sorry. When I took a quick look at the comparison sheet the other player listed 1080i and 1080p separately. For the 3980 it said 1080i/p and I didn't notice the p.

    Most of the fixes have to do with playing Divx and the USB port. Not of interest to you if you only plan to play movie DVDs.
