  1. I'll try to briefly walk through the steps I took - hoping someone can give me some advice...

Used my DC30Pro & Premier to create a small AVI from some home movies. Used the INDEO codec to save the AVI. Plays fine on the computer.

For VCD #1 I tried this. I converted the AVI using AVI2VCD, then used Nero 5.5 to burn the VCD.

For VCD #2 I let Nero covert the AVI during the VCD burn process.

Took the VCDs to my father's house and tried them in his Sampo 620 DVD player. Saw the little VCD icon in the corner but neither VCD was viewable. A few large blocks (mosaic-like) and no audio. After a few seconds nothing seemed to be playing.

Took the VCDs to his computer. No DVD player but has a 50X CDROM drive. Inserted the VCDs and they played the movie just fine.

I used a Memorex 1622 CDRW to burn at 2x (it's fastest burn speed). Cheap CDR media was used - silver color.

No error messages or indications at any of the steps.

    Any ideas?

  2. all i can say is that There are some Dvd players wont play Burned anything or Screws it up. I think the reason of this being is that the cds we create are Burnd and Commerical Vcd's are STAMPED

maybe trying a higher quality CD-R or try your vcd's on a Different Standalone player.

    hope that helps

Maybe your DVD player isnīt full compatible with recorded media. Have you tried other brands of CD-RWs?

Mine is a Sony DVPS-560D, a fine player, but only accepts a few brands of CD-RW (Sony included).

Does the DVD Player Unit is SAMPO 620 DVD or SAMPO DVE620?
In this site (http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php)you may check what I want to say. I believe that your DVD Player Unit has no problem to play VCD with all CD-R media brand.
I think that you're making something wrong when you encode or burn your VCD.
Try to encode your .avi to .mpg file (VCD 2.0 standard/Iso) using TMPGEnc software (on the column in the left side of this page double click in "Tools" => "Encoders" item and dowload it) and after burn with Nero choosing VIDEO CD.
We'd like to know about your new test.
    I hope help you.
