  1. I converted my avi to svcd using tmpg calculator to fit to 2 cds. the movie encoded perfectly, and has been cut but now when I use any programs (have nero, videopack, and cd maker professional) to burn on to the cds their bars on the bottom show they will not fit and if I slide the bar to show they will fit I will need another cd. Because the bit rate was lower (using the calc) will these programs automatically fit them to the cd? Don't want to make any more coasters

  2. I think you maybe either do not have the latest version of Nero or you do not have the correct CD-R (but thats more unlikely)
You know that you can store 800MB worth of SVCD on a 80 minutes CD!

And you better use Nero version 5.5.24 or higher for burning svcd's
    (I use version .5.69)

btw, I even push it to 808 MB depending on cd-r brand and In Nero experct features you have to say that 82 min or so is the max.)

Quite frankly, I'd scrap Nero. It was OK for my first tests but so limited. You can't do real chapters(entrypoints) besides VCDEasy and TSCV are both free and do do real chapters. Just follow one of the guides.

  4. If you use DVD2SVCD you won't have to use vcdimager yourself (it does it for you) and then burn the cue/bin file and you have chapters

So I only use Nero for Burning and DVD2SVCD for preparing a SVCD image (you can choose between vcdimager and vcdxbuild)

But you're right if you use the Nero SVCD template and drag a mpeg into it, you want have chapters only a menu if you'd like
