AutoGK converts 4:3 VOBs to 4:3 Xvids for me. Understand that part of the conversion to Xvid in most cases includes resizing for a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, so a 740 x 480 4:3 file becomes a 640 x 480 1:1 PAR file. The image itself remains intact - you don't lose any of it.
However I believe if you want to retain the original 740 x 480 4:3 image you have to go into the hidden settings in AutoGK (ctrl + F9), where you can play with these things in more detail.
Be aware though - many software and most hardware players do not observe the AR flags correctly. They assume a 1:1 PAR, and base their decision to letterbox or not based purely on resolution.Read my blog here.

Sounds to me like another misguided soul that thinks 720x480 is 4:3 when it's really 3:2.
