More likely a RAR file. Try WinRAR. Some files are RAR'd and Zipped, apparently in a effort to hide their true identity. Be cautious of trojans or other malware with those type of files.
RAR files usually have a lot more than two parts, though. Those numbers don't look like the extension, just part of the name. Do you have 'Hide extensions from known file types' unchecked in 'Folder Options'? Otherwise, you may not be seeing the true extension. If you do have it unchecked, you could always try changing the extension to .zip and see if they will open if you really think they are Zip files. -
it is zipped. I know there is something called a splitter that normally sets the files like that with the zip.001 and zip.002. there is normally a program that brings the 2 files together that allows you to extract the data

files with such extensions are simply split binary files.
One of the progs which can do both split and join is HJSplit

Have used it for years.
