I'm looking for a monster program.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to

    1) split and join files,
    2) convert from one video type to another (most importantly, at the moment, .flv FLASH video files) or just be able to convert and burn at the same time
    3) burn to both VCD and DVD
    4) make menus that can have the background changed and that allow for font choice in lettering
    5) control aspect ratios (essential)
    6) replace a portion of the video or audio with new, leaving the rest alone (not as important as the above features)

Right now I've got a simple version of Cyberlink's Power Producer that came with my computer. It's been pretty good up to now, but it's having trouble with some .flv files. I've had varying success trying out some conversion programs, and a big glitch seems to be PP not letterboxing widescreen .flv files that were converted to another form before attempting to burn.

ConvertXtoDVD seemed promising, but all it did was convert from various types to DVD. No editing, no nothing.

Using a sample video made with the above, I ran it thru PP and the results were GREAT (as in good resolution and letterboxed on a 4x3 screen, not distorted), but I hate to buy a program that can only do one thing.

If I could get ONE program that can do all of the above...

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    PS
I've had Power Director suggested to me, but it doesn't seem to accept .flv files

There isn't one that will do all of them and do any of them particularly well.

You have several different tasks, and each requires different tools to be done correctly.

    1. Split and Join files. if they are all the same parameters then AVI Demux is very good. If you want to do real editing, get a real editor. Replacing video is an editing task. Again, basic editing can be done in AVI Demux. Complex editing requires an editing application.

    2. File conversion. AVI Demux does much of what you want, but you will get better quality using a dedicated mpeg encode for mpeg and an FLV encoder for flvs.

    3. Authoring requires an authoring. No good DVD authoring tools also author VCD. Tmpgenc DVD Author will do most of what you ask - change backgrounds and fonts - but is otherwise limited.

Bottom line : no program that does everything does any of well. Nero is a good case in point. It was once a very good burning application. No it edits and converts audio, encodes and authors DVD, washes the dog and neuters the cat. And does none of it particularly well, and nowhere nears as well as using dedicated tools for each stage of the process. Like most things in life, you can get it done quickly, or you can get it done well.

Well, ulead videostudio 9 did almost of all those things, I think there was

A: Input flv support, and a few other types
B: Burn both dvd and vcd
C: Do what ever you wanted in regards menu backgrounds, and font color's
D: Replace video and audio where ever, in regards to "E"
E: Split and join ... thou the mixing of different types from the input side of things requires conversion beforehand
    F: Video aspect control

    For everything else, there's super.

Is SUPER safe? I've read here on the forums that some people have found it leaves "things" in your computer that you wouldn't want to have.

My problem with SUPER, as with most of the all-in-one encoders, is that it's quality leaves a lot to be desired compared to dedicated tools.
