I am lost. I have been trying to figure this out for days. I have several Hi8 tapes that were recorded with my Sharp VL-AH30 Viewcam. I want to either covert them to DVD or somehow store them on my PC for editing. I am running VISTA and I have installed a WinTV-HVR-1800 to use with Media Center. It works fine for viewing and recording live TV with in Media Center.

The camera only has the single Audio/Video output that splits to one Audio and one Video RCA jacks. I have the audio split into two and connected to the audio input on the back of the card. I have the video ran through a RCA to S-Video converter and then connected through the S-Video input on the card. How do I capture the Stream? Windows Movie Maker does not allow you to capture analogue. I also have CyberLink Power Director and Power Producer that I use with my JVC Everio. The version I have is not totally compatible with VISTA and the upgrade is about $50. I can’t seem to get anything to view the stream. What is the best way to proceed?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Use the software (WinTV2000?) that comes with the HVR-1800. Press the little green button between the channel up/down buttons to cycle through inputs.

Well I was finally able to get WinTV to work, but only have downloading v6. I figured out how to get it to recognize my video input. I have sound, but no picture. Any suggestions? As I stated earlier, it works fine with Media Center. Is there some sort of conflict? Please advise.

  5. I suppose you did this:

Except the reference to Pal-BGHIDK is obviously not right for the USA. There should be an NTSC_M setting or similar.

I was finally able to get it to work. I had to use drives from mce_cd_v32 and WinTV v6 from hauppauge_cd_3.4d1. I get good picture but occasionally the picture jumps or distorts. Any suggestion for improving the image quality?
