When using winavi on my main computer 1ghz cpu 256 ram it is 7yrs old 400mb 27min video takes 2hr 30min to convert. On another computer 2.8ghz 1gig ram Winavi take 20min to 25min to convert same video, so is there any way to speed up Winavi on my main computer without having to upgrade ram or cpu.

Ok so what can I do to speed up the computer with upgrading parts

CPU. The biggest bottle neck for encoding is CPU. Unless you are particularly memory starved (running XP in 128 - 256 MB, for example), then the single biggest speed up will come from upgrading the CPU to the fastest the board will support.
