Does anyone have any experience with converting a miniDV tape recording in 1080i format to DVD? I want to get 'better than' SD format DVD (hopefully HD format). Grateful for any advice.

do you have a blu-ray burner and $10 single use or $20 re-writable blu-ray blank discs?

otherwise SD "DVD" is a standard for most standalones you can't change if you want your dvds to play.

thanks. So what are the advantages of a HD video camera? None unless you have a blu ray burner?

that's about it...you can also cap, edit, then put it back into your cam to send to HDTV
I think what you want to do is downconvert to DV until the blu-ray prices come down

Higher res HDV allows downsizing for "sharper" clip at better quality at high bitrates within DVD spec than other DV types ... new technology too with its benefits, read their marketing blurb.
