Looking to get some new MP3s. Anyone know a good MP3 paysite, preferably cheapest with a limited free trial to try out, to recommend?

Any particular type of music ?

We7 has free downloads, including some commercial stuff. They do drop a 4 - 6 second ident on the start, but MP3directcut makes short work of that. Not a huge range, but I picked up the Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack there.

Various stuff, such as 80's-90's and a GOOD selection. Normal MP3 format.

I just came from trying out emusic.com earlier and that place sucked! Its selection was lousy and the stuff it did have was like, imitations of the real thing. It was terrible. Luckily there was a trial so i didn't have to pay for any of that junk and canceled my account.

Just finished listening to a little bit of the stuff i got on emusic before i deleted it. How can they legally make these 'imitations' of known music?

They were well-done, i'll give'em that, but i want the real thing not some kinda amature studio-made knock-off.

YEah amazon, microsoft marketplace for zune, and itunes now offer drm free mp3 for a price. Good selections available. Don't know about other "off brand" sites. I did use Yahoo Music until I switched to Zune. However until recently they offered only encrypted wma for purchase or subscription as far as I know.

I'd say Itunes and Zune would be a good choice. Not only because they're mainstream but because they provide a better quality service when you're downloading music. Plus they have a lot of varieties. It's just a pain when you listen to underground music though because hardly any paysites/programs have them. =(

Just be sure you by the "mp3" tracks if you don't own an ipod or zune. Ipod or Zune encoded tracks will only play on those players - wma encrypted for zune and aac encrypted for ipod (or is it m4a now? I don't know for sure).

But the actual "mp3" purchases are universal. THose are advertised pretty clearly on ZUNE at least. I don't know how itunes marks its "mp3" tracks as I haven't been on there in a long time.
