Hi,
Just wondering:
When encoding to mpg, it is wise to have 2 instances of TMPGEnc running at the same time, say one to encode the first half of a film and the second to encode the second half of the film on the one computer at the same time?
Does it work?
Thanks.

Will this not 'overuse' the CPU, cause when I have one instance running, the CPU Usage % is at 100%?

i doubt it will over use your cpu but it increases chances of errors and you wont save much time... (it'll split your cpu in 2... 2 things going at 50% wont be faster than 1 at 100%...)
-
i find it slows both down..
you would be best off setting them both up in a batch file and leave them overnight -
Actually,
I bet it will be faster as 1 process probably won't have the CPU at 100% constantly (althouhg it may appear that way to the eye), it will depend on how often they both access the disc too.
You won't do any harm to your CPU either. I ahev machines that have been at 100% CPU 24/7 for nearly 3 years (running Seti@Home) and they are still going strong.

Wont hurt it, but like has already been said, wont increase the speed. BATCH encoding is best.
I do routinley run 2 instances of DVD2AVI however, with no problems...yet -
It will actually slow-down the overall time.
This is because Windows has to share the CPU between each instance (and any other tasks also running; see the list in Task Manager) and the overhead caused by Windows switching between tasks (many times per second) can easily take 10% of the CPU's time.
