    if i have just got the vob files and nothing else is it possible to burn to a dvdr and it work in a standalone player...

    As I understand it, no.
    You need the ifo and bup files as well.

    However, you may be able to convert the vob's to mpeg and author if yourself using a DVD authoring program.
