Open DVD-R that appears blank

I have a stack of DVD-R with backed up video clips burned on LaCie external DVD burner bundled with Roxio. Most of these open readily on Windows XP SP2 with Roxio EMC 7.5 and 9. Some however appear blank. They were created some years ago, ejected without being finalized? I have tried finalizing them with Drag-to-Disc, but nothing happens after checking "close disc" and UDF version 1.02 and clicking "eject". Any suggestions what is wrong or how to open the discs?

You can try isobuster and see if it finds any files on the dvdr.

Thank you Baldrick, I´ve browsed through the help files for that tool and it looks promising. Seems a bit time consuming though and will have to wait till time is at hand.

I can't rule out the possibility that your discs may have become unreadable. We don't know what brand of DVD-R you used, but some are bad from the moment they are burned.

has some info on burnable DVD media quality. You might take a look at what it says about whatever brand you used. I have a friend who consistently buys CMC made DVD-R discs and they are truly horrible, with all kinds of bad sectors from the moment of the burn. He sends them to me from time to time and they contain video not released on VHS or DVD and asks me to make a copy and give it to my brother, who is also interested in these. They are just a constant nightmare to copy because of the bad disc quality and bad sectors everywhere. Your discs might be unfinalized, but they might also just be bad discs that were finalized. Or maybe they are bad discs that weren't finalized and now can't be finalized because they have degraded too much.

Thanks for your interest, well, I´m choosy about my DVDs, the troublesome ones are Verbatim DataLifePlus, super AZO, ordinary Verbatim and Memorex and I have not had trouble that with any probability stems from bad DVD quality

Sounds lke DVD quality isn't the problem, but I will say that before I learned about DVD quality, I bought some Memorex DVDs once and they were the worst DVDs I ever bought. They aren't the worst DVDs on the market, but they are the worst I ever bought. I had quite a few coasters from them.
