  1. Hello...I must replace my dear LG GSA-4136B...
    (only 3 years worked good...)

In my country you only can find this LG's:

    LG GSA-H62 SATA

    LG GSA-H55N EIDE

    LG GH20NS10 SATA
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/lg-gh20ns10/2279

    and this Hewlett Packaard:

    HP DVD1040i EIDE LightScribe
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/hp-dvd1040i/2099

and I know some Asus models are avaliable too.

Hey guys, what you think? HP is better than LG ? some people think that LG is crap...
some people tell me that Asus is generic...Pionner is too expensive to me...

I'm searching for a reliable and realiable dvd burner...(my LG worked good only 3 years)

If you see HP, back away slowly from these animals.

Why not just grab another LG unit that matches the physical connection currently being used, good value, reliable.

Good drives are far more capable of writing to low grade media, however this dose count against reliability when it comes to checking the data some time later, always use better brands.

As to why your current unit has stopped, that all depends on the amount of work it dose, and the work environment. You can not count or rely upon manufacturers specifics on mean time failure, some last, some don't, but 3 years is not bad.

But then you don't say why it stopped, it could be simply a case that the main data cable has developed an issue and needs replacing, or the software being used has decided to throw itself off the cliff and hasn't indicated to the os its gone on holiday.

Finally, odd things happen when power supplies have power distribution issues, you might want to investigate and try the drive on another system. Just swapping the power drive connections around is not good enough, and unreliable for testing purposes.

  3. Hi Bjs...thanks for reply

I was using Imation and Sony dvd+r (some people said is crap media)...

Oh,3 years is not bad, then? ...I'm looking for a burner that can last like 5 years (at least)...but if that isn't possible, and LG like you tell is a reliabe brand, I'll buy one of that LG SATA models,then... (I'm not interested in the LightScribe feature of the HP burner)...

About of why I think my LG GSA-4136B died:
In the last month I had problems with Nero 7 ...
"Session fixation error" or "Write error" or "Invalid block address"
    many types of errors...
(yes I re-installed Nero in a clean way, with Nero Clean tool, and clean the register and the Nero folders)...but same errors

So I tried with BurnAware ....well I burned data dvds...and the same day can't read the same burned disc...other data discs burned with BurnAware the same day can be readed, but with great great effort....

All this makes me thing the problem is the burner...

but what you told me about that would be a power distribution problem
or the main data cable would have sense to me...

so I'll try to make some test in another pc...

I have the LG-H62L which is a SATA dvd burner. I've had no problems with it.
