  1. I have recently captured videos from mini dv tapes. The total length of the videos is 10hours. I have edited the videos into 2hours of play (2 vcd's) now i want to put all the videos in a dvd. I tried with nero, but nero does not take even 2 hours of video in a dvd. I have seen many 9 in 1 movie dvd (thats on a dual layer) so i guest a single layer dvd should be able to take atleast 4-5 hours. I'm happy with VCD quality as this only for a backup.

    Thanks

If you already have them in VCD format, all you have to do, is author it as DVD instead. VCD mpg is DVD compliant (except for audio, which has to me 48 kHz instead of the VCD 44.1 kHz)
If it's still in DV format, encode to VCD specs (use the VCD template) with TMPGEnc, then author the output as DVD. 6-7 hours will fit a DVD-5. Use TMPGEnc DVD Author when you author, as TDA takes care of the audio upsampling.

have you tried NERO Recode (if it's already ready for burning) or NERO vision (to add avi/other formats) ? You can adjust the bit rate in the "more" tab to make it fit.

If at all possible, avoid Nero for anything but burning data to CD/DVD. There are lots of free software available for every aspect of what Nero (claims to) do, that's miles better.

Using Nero 6 Ultra you can change the settings so that you can get 6 hours worth of video on a single dvd. More -->Video Options-->Quality Settings. Under Quality Settings you can use the drop down box to increase the ammunt of allowed data. It really does a good job keeping the video & sound integrity.

    Pay attention, now...

Nero isn't all that great for much of anything that I've found. I do a good many DVDs and don't have ANY Nero software on my machine.

  8. tried TMPGEnc DVD Author . Quite good. I made the first DVD using this. When i'm on the 2nd DVD (which have lots of songs "about 25") something was wrong with the menu. Even after 8 hours of waiting.. the dvd could not be made. So i switched to nero. Nero vision does the work (excep that the title/track conept found in TMPGEnc DVD Author could not be found in nero vision. It has something like chapters (difficult to use).
in TMPGEnc DVD Author i made 2 title title 1 containing about 14 tracks (some dv quality and some VCD quality) title 2 containing about 8 tracks (dv & vcd), the software failed to produce the dvd
I created iso using nero vision (actually it hanged after leaving it overnight. so i closed the software and mounted the dvd using magic iso. the first 16 tracks are fine but after that we cant play anymore movies.
