  1. I just picked one of these up new in the box (though at a slightly inflated price I think, but oh well) and I just realized while reading through the manual that it doesn't have the line TBC of the other JVC models. I mostly bought it to see if it could help out with the flagging on some of my tapes that don't play great through my JVC SR-101 and figured I'd unload my HR-7600U to justify buying it, but now I'm having second thoughts since it doesn't appear to have the TBC, or at least it is not explicitly mentioned in the manual.

How is the picture quality on this model in comparison to the other JVC TBC models?

  2. Yikes... read some old posts about this unit and GShelly had nothing but bad things to say about it's VHS playback capabilities. Maybe this particular model should be taken off of that list (VCR buying guide.)

  3. Don't know anything of that machine but i just read a review here
they got plenty of good things to say about it apparently. This is an old review though.

How many bucks did this unit cost you?

  4. Here is a previous post by Gshelly about it:

Hey, I got the JVC 30000 D-VHS unit... not impressed. I guess these machines are only good at playing and recording the D-VHS (MPEG2) high def stuff. It is built well and all, but VHS looked terrible played back on this unit. Lots of digital processing artifacts like color banding, clay faces, smearing, etc. Not a good alternative to a 9000 series JVC S-VHS machine as far as capturing VHS goes.

So not sure if I still want it or not. I might give it a try, but those are not glowing words.

One of my peers has a 40000U and love it. I've seen the work he gets from it, and I give it my blessing. I've outsourced to him 2-3 times, because it's quality work.

  6. Yeah I have heard nothing but good things about the 40000 -- but the 30000 -- I haven't seen anything good said about it as far as converting VHS-DVD and it's merits as a DVHS recorder seem pretty weak too.
