I have a Divx movie that is very dark. Is there a way I can brighten it?
Thanks

Virtualdubmod,
open avi, select no if it wants to rewrite mp3 headers
video->full processing mode
video->filters and add brightness/contrast filter and use the preview to check that it looks okey
video->compressin and choose divx and choose same bitrate as the source
file->save as a new avi -

I'm guessing that you had VBR audio in the original file - this frequently causes problems.
If you're not ready to give up yet, i can suggest 2 options:
1) Demux the good audio track from the 1st file using yamb. In the newest version of virtualdub, you can specify audio from a different source. So open the "good video" file, and specify the audio from "good audio" track. Use video=>direct stream copy.
2) Use avidemux to do the whole process. It recalculates the VBR time map and re-indexes the file. It has many filters (including brightess), and functions in a similar fashion to virtualdub, but has support for more file types. It doesn't have DIVX, but uses the open source XVID instead; but for all intents and purposes will give you similar results.

Did you use virtualdubmod? not virtualdub.
Did virtualdubmod ask if it you wanted to rewrite the mp3 header when opened the avi?
What is the audio format? -
