When using Corel VideoStudio X2Pro, can I capture an HD movie from an AVCHD Sony camcorder by using USB or does it have to be by Firewire?
If I can... by using USB, can I burn the HD movie to a regular DVD (with DVD burner) and have it be HD when playing back on an HD TV or do I have to burn it with a BluRay burner to have it be HD on the TV playback.
    Thanks

I don't have an answer for the first part (USB/DV transfer), however the sceond part depends on what you are playing back with.

You cannot, period, put HD on a DVD and get HD playback from a DVD player.

You can, however, author HD video that can be burned to DVD and played by via devices such as the PS3, and a range of bluray players.

    Thanks.
To author the HD movie and play it on a BluRay player, does this mean I have to use a BluRay burner?

If you are burning to DVD then, no, you just need a DVD burner.

    Have a look at multi-AVCHD

AVCHD Sony camcorders usually transfer over USB2 or if flash drive, also by card reader.

I am sorry but I don't know the meaning of "author" the HD so it can be put
on a DVD. Would you please give a brief explantion of "authoring" the HD.
If is authored, and put on a DVD, what will the quality be on an HD TV?
    thank you very much

Authoring is the process of getting the video into the correct file structure. DVD has a specific structure, Bluray has a different structure.

If you author for Bluray using MultiAVCHD you will be able to fit up to around 40 minutes of full 1080 HD video on a DL DVD. More if you re-encode the video to a lower bitrate or lower resolution - you can fit 2 hours of 720p on a DL DVD at very good quality, for example.

If you author for DVD then you will have to encode as SD mpeg-2 and the quality will be heavily reduced from the HD source.
