    Hi,

My father just bought a Sony 60" DLP HD TV. It is
only rated as high as 1080i so I was wondering if anyone
could tell me the reslolution of the TV and the Best Setting,
    720p or 1080i.

I do apologize but these resolution settings
    confuse me.

    Thank You

The resolution could be as low as 1024 x 768. 1080i means it is capable of taking a 1080i signal, but doesn't necessarily mean it can display 1080i natively.

You need to at least give the model number if you want real details. At least then someone can do your googling for you. Otherwise all the information you seek will bein the manual.

You might want to look at the AVS FORUM WEBSITE as they have a section totally devoted to just DISPLAY DEVICES and within that section then have two sub sections that would interest you. One is for REAR PROJECTION TELEVISIONS such as DLP TELEVISIONS and the other is called DISPLAY CALIBRATION.

If his DLP TV is a popular enough model it may even have it's on thread there.

    Worth a look.

    Hi,

He has a Sony Grand Wega KDF-E60A20. The resolution of the TV is
1366 X 768. Which is only rated as high as 1080i.

He also receives HD TV. I pressed info on remote and it says
1080i. I do not know how to change the settings 720p to 1080i..

I called Sony Customer Service talked to some lady I could barely
hear and she was no help.

Surely there should be a way to change the resolutions on the Tv.
Like on Upscalers, HD DVD, Blue Ray?

    Any help would be great....

The best it can display natively is 720p. Everything else will be scaled up or down to match.

It's telling you the source format, not how it's being displayed. It is receiving a 1920x1080 signal and downsizing it to 1366x768 for display.

I have a HD OTA digital box hooked up to my SD CRT TV. It also receives 1080i broadcasts, but by the time it hits the screen it is 576i.

What goes in isn't necessarily what comes out.

    Thanks Again,

How do I change the Settings on the TV form 1080i to 720p.
Like you can with Upscalers, HD, and Blueray.

You don't. If its resolution is 1366x768, then that's what you always get. You can change the input resolution from your upscaling DVD player, but I guess you already know how to do that.

  13. There's nothing wrong with feeding the HDTV 1080i.
