Hi everyone l've looked around but can't find an answer to this
I have 6 episodes of a sit com from diferent sources sitting on my hdrive. I used dvd shrink to back them up to a folder l backed them up as dvd files to a folder where l have now got 2 sub folders video ts and audio ts inside video ts are vts files and bup files. l now want to burn them to disc using nero all is good so far however l have created a still menu with 6 chapter icons using vcdlite and now want to add this to the final dvd so l will have a functiong menu where l can select chapters etc. How do i do this and does anyone know a guide thats available to look at

Adding a menu where none exists in an authored DVD is not easy. I have used pgcedit to do something similar to what you want to do. However, in addition to adding the file containing the menu (and it must be added in the right place), you must also modify some code, and the code authoring programs generate varies. There really is no guide possible for it. Given that you appear to be a beginner, your best option is to re-author using an appropriate program that allows you to create menus, and let the software create root, title, and chapter menus for you.
I also suggest that you use ImgBurn (freeware) rather than Nero to burn your DVD, because Nero doesn't burn in accordance with DVD standards. While it very unlikely that what Nero does incorrectly will ever cause a problem for you, why take the chance? -
Yes, too easy with the right tool's, thou implementing a menu on a vcd scale may not be possible, unless upscaled.
The tools you need are:
Dvdauthorgui (basic authoring menu design using 6 small dummy titles)
The gimp (menu background creation)
Pgcedit , thou it is easier to use vobblanker (you dont need to do a heap of vm command editing this way)
You can use a few guides designed for dvdauthorgui, and pgcedit, some of which I have created.
If you would like a guide specifically for 6 title's, just pm me -

Thanks for the replies however i don't want to make a vcd l want to make a dvd.
Your definition of easy and mine are very different. How could all of this this be easier or less time consuming than creating a simple menu with, say, GFD, TDA, or dvdauthorgui and using the VOB's for the titles as they are, or perhaps mpegs extracted from them using VOB2MPG, depending on the type of video files the authoring software needs?
Thanks for a relpies every one but l'm still no wiser -
I'm guessing that the software you used to create your menu is actually VCD Menu Lite. ("vcdlite" is the name of the executable file for VCD Menu Lite.)
If so, you don't yet actually have a menu. It just created a graphic file that you can import into a DVD authoring program, such as DVDAuthorGUI, asasuming your graphic is the right size. It is the DVD authoring program that actually creates a functioning menu, links it to videos you want to include in your DVD, and creates the files and folders needed to burn a playable DVD disc.
Assuming you do use DVDAuthorGUI (which VCD Menu Lite reccommends) ...
Bjs is suggesting that you:
1. Obtain 6 tiny video clips to use along with your background image from VCD Menu Lite, and author a dummy DVD with DVDAuthorGUI with 6 buttons, one for each sitcom episode.
2, Test the resulting DVD files on your computer with a software dvd player to make sure it functions correctly, and make corrections if it does not.
3. After you have it working correctly, use his guides to combine the menu from your dummy DVD with your real video files in the VIDEO_TS folder you made with DVD Shrink.
4. Test your DVD, as before. When you are satisfied...
5. Burn your DVD
I am suggesting that you:
1. Use VOB2MPG to create one mpg file from each set of VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVD Shrink. I don't use DVD Shrink so I don't know what it does, but there will most likely either be A) 6 VOB sets, with one episode of your sitcom in each or B) 1 VOB set with all 6 sitcom episodes joined together
Situation A results in simpler authoring. You make 1 menu cotaining 6 buttons, one for each title/episode,
Situation B is more complicated, as you will need to create a chapter point for every episode, and then use a button to referece each one.
2. Author your DVD with DVDAuthorGUI, using your backgound graphic and the mpg file(s) you created using VOB2MPG.
3, Test the resulting DVD files on your computer with a software dvd player to make sure it functions correctly, and make corrections if it does not. When you are satisfied...
4. Burn your DVD
Choose whichever method pleases you.
