Hi there I am a complete newbie and novice at most things on the computer.
Please help with non technical help if possible.
I have a movie in a .avi format in a foreign language and I have the english subtitles in a .srt format.
How can I get the two to merge together and then burn it onto a DVD with the subtitles at the bottom of the picture.
Thanks in anticipation for the help.
Please tell me where I can find out how to do it.

Do you want to burn them as an avi file, for a Divx capable player, or convert it to DVD format for general DVD playback ?
For a Divx/Xvid capable player, just make sure both files have the same name, and are in the same folder. e.g. movie1.avi and movie1.srt. Burn as data, and your player will either play the subtitles automatically, or you can turn them on with the subtitle button on your remote.
To create a compliant DVD, use FAVC. Load you srt file into the subtitle area, and you will get a DVD with soft subs that can be switched on and off with the subtitle button on your remote.Read my blog here.

Make sure the movie file and the subtitle file have the same names, then load then into convertxtodvd. It will do it all automatically. Here is where you can get the software:
