I can't sem to get virtualdub to work on my vista ultimate machine. I can open an avi (typically x264) but if i choose the Divx 6.8 codec it immediately bombs as soon as i try to create the new avi file. I've tried all the different profiles (720, 1080, unconstrained) and tried tinkering with the height and width but no dice. I get two errors, the first says "Problem reading matrices file" and then I get video compression error -100 (an unknown error occured. May be corrupt data). It does this with every file i try. All files work fine on my XP machine with the same settings. I'm using the vista codec pack which seems to work fine for opening any kind of video. If i choose xvid in virtualdub it works so it seems to be something with divx and virtualdub. Any advice would be appreciated.

Or something in the Vista Codec Pack. I used to recommend it and used it on my Vista machines, but after some problems, I removed it.
What you may have are two conflicting codecs. I use VD and VD Mod on my Vista computers, also the Divx and the Xvid codecs with no problems. The only add on codecs besides Xvid and Divx 6.8 I have is ffdshow. I believe that's also part of the Vista Codec pack. You might check your codecs with Gspot or DXMan and see if there are any conflicts, duplicates or damaged codecs.

Or you may just have a corrupted version of the Divx codec.

I loaded DXMAN but i'm not really sure what i'm looking at or for. I've been using tmpgenc express using divx as the compression codec and it works like a champ so i don't think my divx codec is corrupt. i've only loaded te vista codec pack and nothing else. no other codec packs of any kind. the only other software i loaded was WinDVD Platinum but I don't even use it and don't think it installs any codecs. I can't figure it out.
