I guess Sony did learn from the Beta-VHS war after all. You don't let the market decide, you buy it!!!

So far this market segment appears to have two losing formats. Titles available and sales are still tiny compared to DVD.
Toshiba's strategy of reducing the price of hardware might benefit the consumer, if there was something they wanted to watch.
Blue-Ray is clearly in need of higher product margins to pay for buying off studios, so prices will remain high and deter adoption of it by consumers.
Lets hope the gamers constitute an adequate market for HD since it still looks like few others will bite. -
Hmmm, half a billion dollars.
Yeah, right..... you could get Universal and Paramount thrown in as a freebie for that price!
The article was posted Jan 4th - you'd think a month is enough time to get some more info other than an un-named trusted source.

It goes both ways. Sony paid off Warner just like Toshiba paid off Paramount and I'm sure the rest are also being paid off by Toshiba and Sony. I don't know why people are shocked. I didn't like it when Sony fanboys blasted Paramount and Toshiba for their deal and I see the HD-DVD fanboys are doing the same thing.

With as much money as either side has involved, do you REALLY believe they'd leave the decision up to the consumer?
I wouldn't.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
