If I create a video in Vegas, what steps should I do to keep a higher quality when I upload it. This question is pretty general, but I have no idea what steps to take after the video is created in Vegas. What I need is a like a 5-10 step tutorial on what programs to use (to convert the video to mpg4 after it is rendered in vegas). This is actually not so clear so I'll write an example of what I am looking for.

    1. Create video in vegas
    2. Render the video as ___ with these settings ______________.
    3. convert the video to mpg4 using __(program)___ with these settings_________
    4. upload the video to youtube.

what i really want is the fastest and most efficient way of doing this, I really don't want to wait 30 minutes for the video to render in vegas. Thanks ahead of time.

    1. You rush, you lose. There is no such thing as a fast, quality solution when it comes to video. Quality takes time. Software that works faster produces lower quality in 98% of cases. The only way to speed things up is to throw raw power at it. Go quad core. Your old Athlon isn't going to do anything fast any more.

    2. Often a single tool is not the best tool for the job. The best quality is often obtained by using the correct tool at each stage of the process. Sometimes a single tool may cover severals tages, but rarely is a single tool and end-to-end solution.

    3. Every video is different. There is no single formula that will give you excellent results every time for every piece of footage. Over time you will learn what settings suit what footage to get the best results. There is no magic number answer.

    4. This is probably the most comprehensive post we have of video preparation for YouTube. It doesn't specifically use Vegas, and may require you to start in Vegas and step out to another program to complete the process in order to get the best results.
