I have not captured any VHS using my CANOPUS ADVC for around two years now, and have forgtotten the little hints and tips i used to use, so im hoping you experts can refresh m7y memory. Firstly i am using WINDV to capture through the canopus, then i used to use tMPGNc to convert, the use TMPGNc DVD author to create the menus and chapters, BUT i need to ask you guys a few questions.
CODECS, i had some codecs installed, but i think i have rebooted my PC since then and havnt installed them back into the PC, Where can i download the best codec for my capture and conversion.........
WINDV, my first attempt WINDV stopped capturing after just 26mins. this never used to happen, and i have set the max AVI size setting to the max, Have i forgotten some other settings, as i used to capture a lot more than 26 mins in one go
Thanks for any advice![]()

In WinDV, set Discontinuity to '0' also. You should be able to 'mouseover' the different settings to get info on them.
You might want to install a DV codec. I install the Cedocida DV Codec or the Panasonic DV Codec. I use those mostly for editing with VirtualDub Mod. I frameserve the edited/filtered output from VDM to TMPGEnc most times. I convert only the video with TMPGEnc. The audio I save out as a WAV with full processing in VDM and convert it to AC3 with ffmpeggui, then add that back in during authoring with TDA. -
Great advice, thanks, however it has stopped capturing again at 56 mins.........i cant seem to get the MOUSEOVER function, so could you tell me what "ticking the box" and the "every N th frame" setting does, THANKS AGAIN

This might explain it better: http://windv.mourek.cz/ At least the 'mouseover' works with his site.
The 'N-th' is if you want to capture every frame (1) or every other frame (2) and so on. The Discontinuity sets if you want to have it capture each scene on the tape as a separate file. You normally want to capture the whole tape. Set as (0)
If you mean that little box between 'Config' and 'Capture', that's to let WinDV control the camera or device. Probably so it's not running until you want your capture to start. I don't use it and it doesn't work with all cameras.
I thought we had a guide around here, but I don't see it.
56 minutes, That's a bit over 100,000 frames. You can set it at 1,000,000 maximum.
Seems like other members had a similar problem with WinDV stopping for no reason, but I would have to do some searching to find the posts again. Or maybe another member has a cure. I've never ran into that with my ADVC-100.
