I've been backing up my DVD collection thanks to this website, and I was wondering about VHS. I have quite a few VHS tapes that are not on DVD, or too expensive to track down. I want to copy them to DVD. I also want closed captions to remain intact too if possible. I've got Pinnacle software and a capture device. I'm not doing anything illegal since I am only converting stuff I own just like my DVDs. I'd appreciate your help. Thank You.

You usually have to rip your CCs from a separate pass through your capture card using something like Graphedit and the correct filter setup (search the forum). Also, your capture card has to PASS the CCs to the computer - quite a lot of them do NOT.

Once captured, you can convert them to a form that a DVD authoring program can use, so once you are ready to author a DVD, simply import your CCs and go.

  3. I don't understand you want copy vhs to dvd , fine. Not an easy task (especially with pinnacle products) but feasable none the less.
Then you talk about closed captions "i want them to remain intact".To the best of my knowledge, vhs tapes don't have closed captions, UNLESS there are directly put within the pictures which wouldn't be a matter if so.

    So i'm kinda lost

Your knowledge isn't up to par. VHS tapes routinely contained closed captions.

  5. As SLK001 already said, VHS tape *do* have closed captions stored on them. Even if I record something from TV, the CC data is there. BTW, CC is also on Laserdiscs.
