Recently I've been using XBMC as my HTPC software but I'm now looking for something PC-based to play my x264 files. One of my favourite options about XBMC was that you could add a shared folder that in fact pointed to multiple folders and the contents of all the folders would be viewable at once. For example, if I have a folder named "tv shows 1", one named "tv shows 2" and one named "tv shows 3" I could create a shortcut in XBMC that would list the contents of all three folders. Is there any HTPC software for the PC that'll do this?

you aren't specific about where the files are, etc... but if you have a windows 2k/xp machine that is hosting the files on various hard drives or various locations on the hard drive, you can use this
    http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html

this will not allow the local machine to see the merged folder, but it allows for a single share to the network...
