Dear Members,
A long while ago i brought a DVD home cinema system, the system is called a Toshiba SD-43HK. Now two days ago only the DVD player itself broke. It was a shame as the system was really good, it had great sharp sound and it had the ability to be made region free. I really don't want to pay out for a new cinema system as the rear speaker wires run under the carpet.
Now heres what i need help with. I need to find a standalone DVD player that can be made region free and has the same sockets so the SD-43HK speakers can plug into it.
If the above is impossible then is it possible to re-wire the SD-43HK 5.1 speakers to fit into the new DVD player?
I would appreciate all and any help i can get.
Thankyou,
Jabbashouse.

DVD players don't have speaker connections. The unit you are referring to in your system is actually a DVD player and receiver all in a single unit. Assuming only the DVD portion of the unit is not working, the unit should have additional audio/video inputs on the back. So all you should need to do is get another DVD player and connect it to your existing unit. If not, you will need a new AVR (Audio Video Receiver) and a new DVD player, you can then reuse your existing speakers.

Dear Crispy,
Ok, so let me get this straight because its only the DVD unit that has broken and not the reciever all i would need to do is go out and buy a DVD player that has the potential to be made region free. Hook it up to the Toshiba one using a set of Audio/Video in and out leads, sit it on top of the Toshiba unit and then just use the new DVD player to play movies through the Toshibas reciever to get the DTS sound.
I take it that hooking both units up via the Audio/Video in and out leads, would mean that the Toshibas reciever/decoder would be decoding the sound played by the new unit.
If im mistaken then would you be so kind to do a detailed step by step instruction on how to hook them up and what items i need to purchase to do so.
If that is the case i would save a lot of money especially when you can pickup a region free DVD player for £60 which plays all formats including DivX.
Thankyou for you're promt reply.

Yes, you are correct. Your only limitation will be the type of inputs your current unit supports. In order to get Dolby Digitial 5.1 or DTS 5.1 surround sound, your current unit will need to have digital (coaxial or optical) inputs and your new player will need to have the same outputs.
Check your user manual or the back of the unit to verify the number and type of inputs available.Google is your Friend -
