clarify your question. right now you are asking how to burn using a standalone player. doesn't make sense. they don't burn anything.

come on!!! of course you need a burner to burn files!!! and a blu ray player to play HD blu ray content!!

, what i need is to burn MTS files on BD-R or BD-RE that will be playable on a blu ray player . I have the blu ray burner and OF COURSE a blu ray player.

The problem is that the blu ray player doesnt play MTS files (the ones you create with HD cameras) if you burn them as data.using UDF 2,5 and all the tips you find on the web

    any ideas ??

have try nero 8 and cyberlink no success at all

    thanks

    ticos2000,

I have Sony HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder, and I get .M2T files when capturing to PC.
    I have Lite-On Blu-ray burner.
I have Ulead DVD Movie Factory 6+ with HD pack that can author BDMV on BD-R/RE.
    It plays perfectly on PS3.

I Nero 8, your Bluray burner should be detected by the PC and when you create a new project, the option to create a Bluray disc should be available for selection (in addition to DVD-video, and AVCHD disc). After that, the process to edit/burn a Bluray disc is essentially the same as that for a regular DVD: adding m2t files, editing clips, creating menu, and burning Bluray disc.

AVCHD camcorders output MPeg4 h264/AVC with an MTS extention.

I don't have a BluRay player but I've read that BluRay players will directly read a MTS file from a data disc. Try that.

I have Nero 8 but it is unopened.

    thanks eldv

you are right if you do that with dvd r dvd rw (you can play dvds with mts files burned as data over a blu ray player) but my question is regarding using BD r and BD re . You see the difference? the idea is to back up all the huge MTS files from HD camera and be able to recorded on the blu ray discs (bd r bd re) as data

-If you need to back up mts files to Bluray disk, then copy them to a Bluray disk (as a data disk). You can only use the PC (with the Bluray burner/player) to manually open each of these files in the disk to play. The sofware package that goes with the Bluray burner should include a player to play mts files. This data disk will not play by just being loaded to a stand-alone Bluray player
-If you want to create a Bluray disk to automatically play on a stand-alone Bluray player (like a movie in Bluray format), you need to use an authoring program (such as Nero 8) to create one with a complete menu.

The analogy to SD video is avi/mpg2 files and a DVD-Video disk (corresponding to mts/m2t/m2ts files and Bluray disk in HD)...
I am not sure if I got the question right...

thanks but what you said is not right. You certainly can play mts files burned on DVD r or DVD rw as DATA and be able to play on a blu ray player like de BDP s1 by sony (you just change the extension MTS by MPEG and voila you can play the files on the stand alone blu ray player. You just go to the blu ray player menu and browse for the movie files.

Again my trouble is doing the same thing but with different media like BD R or BD RE. Of course with and authoring software like dvdit pro or ulead media i think you can cretae HD blu ray movie with menues and everything BUT again mi question is regarding just a back up of the files BUT playable on the stand alone blu ray player

    thanks again

So what your'e asking is why dosen't my Blu-ray player recognize a BD-R/RE data disc.

The only Blu-ray player I know of that recognizes a BD-R/RE data disc is the PS3. The downside of the PS3 is it will not recognize a burned Blu-ray authored disc.

    Ok thanks megahurts

well.... thats one of the big issues with blu ray standalone players. What is the point with sony if you are not able to backup your HD blu ray MTS files on BD r or BD re and be able to play them staright from the data discs?

  13. Here are a couple of tips:
    1) PS3 can play burned BD-R/RE discs ( I use ArcSoft Total Media Extreme because its not full of bloatware like Cyberlink, and it has better playback software than Ulead) but the PS3 has a 4GB cap on its playback capabilities currently. XMB and Burned items cap out at around 4GB so test with files under that.

    2) you can't just pop .mts or .m2ts files on a BD disc and think they'll play on a PS3 or BD player. ArcSoft transcodes them to the correct disc format and layout in order to be seen by the player as a movie disc.

    3) if you rename the file .mpg you can burn a data disc with the <4GB file on it and PS3 will play it, however there will most likely be issues with the audio. Of course this is only true if your .mts files are mpeg type (some are h.264 and I don't think this trick works with those)

Hope some of this helps a little.
