I got an error message while burning an 7,53GB ISO image file in a Dual Layer DVD. The error ocurred after about 40min of burning (I don't know exactly, maybe 30min, maybe 50min); I just did a bad mistake by not taking a screenshot of Nero window and by not saving a log file. Here, Dual Layers DVD are a bit expansive, so I wanna try to resume the writing, if it's possible. "Finalize DVD" option was unchecked, so maybe we have a chance? Also, when I insert the DVD in my DVD writer, Windows says it's a 7,53GB disc with 0 bytes free.

The media used is a RiDATA (purple colored) with white blank stamp (I guess it's for LightScribe). By naked eye I couldn't identify any damages on the writing purple surface. Also, the DVD was burned with Booktype set to DVD-ROM (I could see Nero's message, in the very beggining of the burn process).

    Not possible. Bin it.

Then bin the rest of the discs - RiData DL discs are rubbish. Buy Verbatim +R DLs made in Singapore, or stop burning DLs (or just send your money to me - same outcome, except I get your money).

Use ImgBurn for writing all DL media. Nero is not reliable for this. The best DL media is Made in Singapore Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. If you can find Verbatim DVD+R DL discs that burn at 8x speed, these are probably made in Singapore. The Verbatim DVD+R DL discs that burn at 2.4x speed maximum are now made in India. They are barely less reliable than the made in Singapore discs, but much cheaper. Any non-Verbatim brand of DL media is likely to have problems.

I have two RiDATA media left, now I will use ImgBurn.

Why is Nero not reliable for this

You guys are telling me to convert .iso to .bin+.cue? So I have to extract the .iso, then compress it again but this time as BIN? So ISO image are a bad quality image?

    Sorry for the many questions

Successful dual layer burning is all about the correct placement of the layer break, as well as the reliability of the media and the burning application. Nero was once a great burning app. It is not a jumble of bloated applications that do many things in a mediocre way, but do none of them particularly well.

Imgburn is a reliable burning application that understands how to place a layer break correctly, and how to burn DVD Video well. I would not trust any other burning applications to burn as well as Imgburn, especially when it comes to dual layer discs.

Nero does not properly burn DVD-Video. Not for SL or DL. With DL, it will render a disc unplayable. For SL, it just causes the disc to work in less players or to hard fault at slight disc errors (ECC is less effective due to lack of 32k gapping).

You must use ImgBurn for DL burning. I'm still amazed that commercial software has continuously fucked up in this area for so many years, yet the "lowly hacker" (as they would likely call him, due to DVD Decrypter) LightningUK can make software that puts these people to shame. It's actually pretty funny .. and sad ... at the same time. Please remember to donate $10 or more to L-UK! for his wonderful app! Do it at the official ImgBurn site. If I had to name 5 people who really made a difference in the world of DVD burning, he would be on that list.

Because Nero doesn't always set the layer break correctly. Because Nero died during your burn and you have no idea why. Because Nero sometimes dies during DL burns for other people and they also don't know why.

Ok. I'm never going to use Nero to burn DVD-video again.

As for DVD-data, it's ok using Nero to burn them? Image files (containing data) can be safely burnt with Nero too?

If you do want a payware for recording your optical disks,
go to Prassi ONES If you prefer the 100%~freeware way,
use mkisofs to transform your VIDEO_TS files into proper .iso images,
and then use cdrecord to burn your DVDs
    ( I'm assuming you're not afraid of the command-line interface )

So Nero isn't ok for data burning?

No I'm not afraid of them ^^
mkisofs seems to be a useful tool, I will keep it in my DVD programs folder.

Nero is OK for data burning (I sometimes use it for that), but you can also use ImgBurn if you want to burn data. Use ImgBurn's Build mode to write data DVDs. Nero is also OK for making data CD-Rs and burning audio CDs. I only use Nero to make data DVDs/CDs and audio CDs.

DVD-R DL is a bit different from DVD+R DL, maybe some posters have forgotten that... >>>
Nero is a bad choice for burning DL media.

Imgburn is nearly perfect, and it is FREE!!!
