I figured out by using ifoedit to convert PAL to NTSC. Well it works great, however when I goto the menus on the DVD the words and the pointer are as if their off centered. Does the menus ect have to be converted to NTSC as well? If so, what can I use to shrink down the size of the menus so they match // lineup correctly?

Not just the menus, but the subpictures and subtitles (if any) as well.

The whole exercise simply doesn't make sense when multi-format players are so readily available.

Well, is there any software that can convert these to NTSC?

Not automagically. You have to demux all the elements, resize with whatever tools is appropriate (graphics editor for stills, video for motion etc), then re-assemble them, possibly having to re-author as well. There are a number of guides in the user guides forum. I believe manono wrote one as well.

Really? so there isnt any software, regardless of price. From 100-9000 that can do anything like this? I don't care how much it is really. Just as long as it can do it.

Nope. Nobody has written an automated PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL DVD converter. It is just too difficult to automate, and not financially viable. A couple of the really nasty packages, such as DVD Santa, claim to be able to do it, but they will crash a lot, butcher your files, and make you wish you had just bought a PAL capable player instead.

Sorry, but bullshit. Any PC (Mac, Windows or Linux) can do format conversion. Mostly badly. Doing it well means doing it carefully, and if you want to convert a whole disc, it means doing ti all by hand.

Frankly, I have yet to see any good video tools for the Mac outside the Pro arena (FCP/Shake), and even then, try loading mpeg-2 into FCP . . . . . . .
