    ok i found the post:
"Free Software to convert mp3 to wav and vice-versa" https://forum.videohelp.com/topic330398.html

    BUT

For some reason i remember it working then but it doesnt anymore... here's what happens...

i downloaded mp3direct cut again (i think its upgraded from the last one) and am following what byteguy wrote in the post. but i keep geting an error ("could not create/write to file").

i load the program... load audio file... go to special... auto cue... set the time to 3:00... press ok (there's no option that says start)... cuts are created (i think)... file... save split... choose the folder... name the file... ok... and then the ERROR...

could you please help me out??

    hi...
im just typing this in for those of you who are like me and can do something 5 times and still forget!! (i bet its just me but hey...)
ITS A REMINDER FOR ME THEN FOR THE FUTURE IN CASE I FORGET AND RE-TYPE THE QUESTION HERE AGAIN SOMEWHERE...

i emailed byteguy (the guy who helped me before) and here's what he said...

I'll bet you have a problem in the file name. When it saves the split, it needs to be able to name each split differently. If you just type in something like "My_file" then it saves the first chunk as "My_file.mp3" and then gets mad when it tries to save the SECOND chunk as "My_file.mp3" also.

The "%" tags below your filename are what you want. For instance, you would put "My_file-%N" to have it add a -01 -02 -03 after each chunk (and that is REALLY the best way to go).

I did a quick test and leaving that off causes a "write error" for me so I bet that is your problem

A QUICK REMINDER (AGAIN)... I DID try what byteguy said (about 8/9 times) but it didnt work then!! i dont know whether i tried again hours later, or i re-started the computer but it worked after a few hours... it cant be because i restarted the software because i kept re-starting it before!! but hey, it eventually worked!!
