  1. I am converting my 20 min VHS-C cassettes to dvd.

I don't have a video card in my computer to do it. (Nor do I really want one.)

I have two standalone dvd/hd recorders. A 3 year old Panny and a new Philips.
I am using them to convert the cassettes to dvd format.

I want to have menus with no pictures but just info in what is in each 20 min clip.

My Panny does make all text menus but without a keyboard it is really laborious.

My Philips' info is not very clear and it obviously laborious.

What I would like to do is to use the standalones to make the dvd. Then I would
copy the clips and replace the menu part with files done on my computer.

Nero 6 that I have does menus but they all have humongous pictures and not much
    room for text.

I don't really want a complete dvd authoring program. Something simple that does simple text
menus. Anything like that out there?

Also DVDAuthorGUI - it's a bit easier to use, I think. It also does simple text menus.
