I recently purchased a SAMSUNG HD870 and multi regioned it using this hack:
1. Switch on with no disc in and let the "No disc" sign appear
2. Press Repeat (the no disc sign disappears)
3. Press 57538 on the remote, and the current Region apears in the top left
of the screen (in this case, a 2 appears)
5. Press 9 to enable all Regions (a 9 now appears where the 2 was)
6. Press Power Off on the remote, wait 10 seconds, and turn back on
7. Insert a different Region disc and away you go
It worked a treat. Unfortunately I had to send the player back to due to freezing issues. When I received the replacement the hack no longer works. When I press REPEAT at step 2 (above) I just get a no entry sign on the DVD and it will not proceed to the next step.
My question: Have SAMSUNG upgraded their firmware to stop this hack working and if so can I work around it? Or am I sending this one back as well?
Thanks for any help
Andy

Hi Andy,
I took delivery of a DVD-HD870 today and have exactly the same problem.
I have tried the <Repeat>5 7 5 3 8 hack over & over and cannot get it to work.
I have asked for help in several places and will e-mail you if someone gives me a hack that works.
Likewise, please e-mail me if you can find a working hack.
This is very disappointing as it's a great player for the price.

Hi Colin.
Of course if I find one I'll let you know. It is really annoying as it worked a treat on the last one I had but had to send it back. I'm assuming SAMSUNG have stopped this hack from working on more recent models. It is a good piece of kit for that price though. Through the HDMI cable and on a SAMSUNG LCD screen STAR WARS look fantastic.

I'm having the exact same problem and would greatly welcome any suggestions people out there have!

I purchased the hd870 yesterday, tried the 57538 hack and it worked...except all non-region 2 dvds play in black and white. Any ideas as to why or how to fix it?
Thanks,
Marvin -
Your region 2 DVD's will be PAL, whereas your non region 2 DVD's will (probably) be NTSC. It looks like your TV can't handle NTSC signals.

Thanks for the input Kbee.
I received my Samsung LE 32R86WD today and indeed, the dvd player is working perfectly for all regions. It was the little old tv that could not play non-pal formats, just as you suggested. -
CAN ANYBODY PLEASE GIVE A LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE OLDER FIRMWARE FOR THIS PLAYER SO IT CAN BE HACKED?
RATHER HAVE MULTI-REGION THAN A RESPONSIVE REMOTE CONTROL!

Hi there,
I have successfully Multi-Region enabled my new version firmware HD870 by loading an old version firmware!!
See here for further details:

(Apologies if linking to another site is frowned upon but I don't want to duplicate the entire message again unless that is really what is required!)

Oh dear, I have tried all suggestions on these forums and NOTHING WORKS!!!
I seem to have firmware installed on my HD870 which is not mentioned at all....
My firmware is 052107.02.87iHXEXAA. Presumably this firmware supersedes all those mentioned. Has anyone managed to find either an unlock code or a firmware downgrade that will allow me to unlock this player. I am in the Caymans, Region 1 I believe and I only bought this player last week.
Any help would be very gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Man I have tried everything listed in this forum and others, tried changing the firmware and an about to return the damn samsung and get something else...except i am too stubborn.
I can press repeat as much as I want I still get a little circle with the "Your a dumb ass" line through it.
Any other suggestions. I lived overseas for years and will be damed if I will give up those movies.
I originally had a HP38 but the damn thing skips so using a DVD player with an optical out put allows me to still use it as an amp... I am about to learn to swear in Korean to give those dudes a nasty call.
Yo bo say yo! -
The easiest solution is to just get a player that supports region free. It isn't worth the hassle trying to get a player to work that doesn't support it. Especially when you know before hand that you want a region free player.
