Hi., Im looking for a software facility to encode, online, various video formats (MPEG etc.) to flash format. Its to be used on a music-video internet site that Im putting together to encode uploaded content. Server-side operating system will probably be Linux Suse. Should be capable of handling reaonably large-volume input and fully automated if possable. Can anybody help me out here please?

Adobe you have to buy the whole product just to use the Flash encoder. We use it. Make sure on the pc your using has the decoder codecs installed on it before putting Adobe.
There is another option made by ON2 I believe its called Flix pro. I've used a demo version in the past and I thought it was nicer since it just encodes and not all the other stuff you have to get in adobe.

I suppose you could also use mencoder for linux and have it loop through a directory via cron, looking for Mpeg and AVI files that have been uploaded to it, then convert the files to flv format when it does.

You'd have to turn the following into a shell script, but here's an example of the windows syntax to do this:

    youtube_emulate.cmd

But as nefty pointed out. the professional "standard" is the adobe product. It won't be free, however.

Thank you for your help. From ON2 Ive been told that the appropriate software would be the "Flix" engine and its really expensive. Is there a possability that I could use the convert utility from FFmpeg for what Im trying to do here?
