  1. I have a small peer to peer network consisting of 3 WindowsXP computers and one Linux OpenSUSE 10.2. Recently two of my WindowsXP had their NetBios over IP disabled. I checked the TCP/IP advanced tab (WINS) and it was in fact enabled, yet an IPCONFIG /ALL reported it was enabled.

Without NetBIOS over IP enabled I was unable to browse other workgroup computers.

I had to remove Client for Microsoft and File & Printer Sharing, then re-install o get it to work....

I've had this small network for over an year now and this is the first time anything like this has happened. The only changes was a windows update was pushed down yesterday but only 2 of the 3 Windows XP computers had this problem.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

I had a similar problem when my LAN card drivers were updated by MS a few years ago. But I would think by now any hardware updates like that would be optional and not automatic. They also updated my ATI card to the point I had to do a restore to get things working again. But I had OK'd that update without reading the info files. Never again.

Maybe nothing to do with the update, but you could check to see what it consisted of.
