  1. Ok Im confused so i need some input. I was looking to get a Tvix 4100
    http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/products/4100sh.aspx

I have back up alot of my movies on my hard drive. Alot are in nero mpg4. I dont mind converting the videos but this is what i want to do

    1) Play my movie collection on my hd tv (32inch) i want to be able to play regular dvd and high def content.(
    2) I want to be able to make a playlist and personalize my icons and film description like this almost http://xbmc.sourceforge.net/imgs/xbmc_alpha/xbmc_alpha_screenshot_mayhem30.jpg

i thought i could only do with with somehting like a 4100 but now im starting to look at the xbox 360, and media extenders like the ones from Lynksys, Buffalo tech, and netgear. The tv is about 15 to 20 feet from my computer so i dont mind if it a wired solution ie streaming.

What are my options? A buddy says the xbox 360 can do that but he wasnt 100% sure
Would like for it to handle different formats like mpeg 1-4, h264 but
    Thanks for any info

Well ive tried all the media extenders from linksys-Buffalo and ill tell you one things they all suck ass. But if your ok with products that dont work perfectly id say get the buffalo media extender. The linksys would be my next choice and id steer the hell away from the d-link one.

Known issues: Wireless streaming sucks horribly with some formats, AVI seems to work fine but MPEG's usually skip way to much when doing playback on tv. So in most cases just wire it like you are going to do anyways.

The media extenders break sometimes or their configurations get screwy, one day youll have 350 movies on the media extender and when you put your computer into sleep mode and come back you only have 200. So dont be afraid to restart your computer a hell of a lot to fix this issue.

Now i use Windows Media Server to stream the data to the buffalo box i have and it works good but sometimes you get issues like the one above this.

Now if you want to make your life a hell of a lot more symplistic, you can go out and do what i did and buy a pioneer elite 50 inch HD1140 which already has a ethernet RJ45 hook up on it with a built in Media Server which cancels out the need for a media extender. You can get one at best buy or magolia HT

Now i know you have been looking at the XBOX 360 which is total crap btw. So is the PS3. But those methods are very very shaky and half the time they freese up. If you plan on going that way get the PS3 because it has some pretty cool options that work with the PSP for portable play. For example you can load up all you 80 gigs of movies on your ps3 and take your psp to the bathroom and watch movies on it while taking a dump. Pretty neat and its in HIGH DEF OOOOO.

But as for the media extender stuff just stick with the guys that specialize in it. But PS3 Def Over XBOX!

    Notice Regarding Injunction

Regrettably, the Court of Appeals has decided not to stay the injunction in the CSIRO v. Buffalo et al litigation during the appeal period. Although Buffalo is confident that the final decision in the appeal will be favorable and that the injunction will be lifted, Buffalo is presently unable to supply wireless LAN equipment compliant with IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g standards in the United States until that decision is issued. Click here for additional information.
    What's the injunction about?

    Oh - patent violation

Consider a dedicated HTPC and use MyMovies.name for your interface... this plugin will do a BETTER job of movie handling...
