The deck is a JVC HR-DVS2EK (Mini DV/S-VHS). I’m wondering if I can’t capture live TV doing a ‘DV pass thru’ via firewire to PC?
Can’t see anything in the JVC’s manual.

I'm not familiar with that model. On my dual deck, there is a trick around it. Connect input to front RCA connectors, select the VHS deck. Use channel buttons and select L2. Press the Dub button to point to miniDV. Voila....the firewire should output....
