Computer DVD players have region-set countdown that, after three of four changes, burn-locks at the last region setting (which allows physical region changes by a purchaser).
The question is -- do stand-alone players have similar mechanisms?
The reason is -- if one does not immediately apply a ROM-hack to make a stand-alone player all-region, could the player's region lock after playing a number of DVD's (from different regions or even the same region)?
Thanks.

Some stand-alone players have similar region set counter when you apply the "change region" -prosedure with remote control. If I remember right, Philips has some older models with the counter, but all of them are also possible to hack to be permanently region free without the "counter effect" (this varies by the model and reguires some changes inside the player).
I Hope this helps.
