i have some tv series dvd's and i want to put certain episodes of them on my ipod, but i don't know how to do that

Hi-
Open the DVD in DVD Decrypter. Set DVD Decrypter to IFO Mode (up at the top, Mode->IFO).

It'll show you the longest PGC (the longest title or episode). If all the episodes are in the same VTS, you'll see them all listed. If they're in different VTS's, you'll have to look around to find them all. Each episode should have its own folder on your hard drive. So, set up the folders and decrypt.
