  1. I have tried to do the alt f10 which should let me restore back to factory settings from the
partition off the HD..but at 28% it says can't restore error 0xd000000d

Is there some other way to restore the operating system?..I don't have any back up disks..

You arent the same person over here > http://www.chevelles.com > post 206770

From that post , it reports vista .

This wont be much fun , but lookup the hard drive manufacturer and check where they are upto on system utilities supporting vista installed systems ... cross your fingers .

As you are able to access the menu from F10 , I would atleast try using diskcheck for error's and then try again the restore ...

I havent accessed the utilities abilities to confirm the data stored in the master backup as yet ... waiting to get my hands back onto that system next few weeks ... no , mine aint broke , I have allowed another person to use it till there's is repaired .

If however , this error is directly being contributed from the inability to read files at a certain point from the master , hidden backup partition ... its pretty well a given it needs servicing ... for without the backup disc's (something you were supposed to make when you first got it) ... its not going anywhere fast .

Beyond this point it involves contacting the manufacturer or a local system tech to remedy the issue ... for without a master backup set , your out of luck

You may have been entitled to a discount purchase of master restore disc's when it was purchased ... Some salesfolk are lazy .

My rule ... if you sell it , you should know the product , inside out .

The proper restore disks with all of the Acer proprietary utilities are essential to success.

If you can bring the unit up in "safe mode" scandisk or chkdisk might help you get going.

If you have not created a set of restore disks, you should contact Acer support and BUY a set.

If you load XP or any other non-Acer supplied O/S you will need to track down the power management and other Acer proprietary utlities for that O/S. Otherwise your system will overheat and fail. This has been biting the Linux folks when they get a great buy on an Acer and try to load their system.

Since you haven't told us why you want to restore the O/S we can't comment on your initial failure, but a call to Acer support identifying your problem may be in order.

If the restore failed, the original problem probably remains. If your friend didn't make restore disks, he probably also did not properly diagnose the original failure. Either go back to the original problem and attempt to remedy it, or order restore disks.

    There is no magic.
